Peter Briger is one of the key principals of the Fortress Investment Group, a private equity company founded in 1998. He is also serving as the co-chairman of the company’s board of directors. The company was established by Wes Edens, Randal Nardone, and Rob Kauffman – three visionary entrepreneurs who wanted to create a different financial firm that would end up becoming one of the largest in the United States. Peter Briger was inspired by the founders of the company, and when an opportunity for him to join the Fortress Investment Group came, he got hold of it and successfully made it through.
Born in San Francisco, California, he spent the most of his childhood life in the city. When he was in college, he had to move to the East Coast, and he studied at the Princeton University and the University Of Pennsylvania – Wharton School of Business. He took up a bachelor and a master’s degree that is related to economics, and used what he learned at the university to start a career in the financial industry. He worked with several other businesses before finding his way through the Fortress Investment Group. He is considered by the company’s founders as an asset for the company’s growth, and he is also considered by Wes Edens and Randal Nardone as the third pillar of the company, replacing Rob Kauffman who has left years ago.
Peter Briger is known for his role in working with the New York Stock Exchange to introduce the company’s IPO. When the Fortress Investment Group was traded to the public, it sold $600 million worth of shares. He is also responsible in acquiring new assets for the company, and in the present, the Fortress Investment Group has been managing $65 billion worth of assets. Peter Briger also worked with his colleagues to help sell the company to a group of Japanese investors called the Softbank Group.
